Welcome to Greengage Sounds

Greengage Sounds was founded in 2007 with its maiden release, a 7" lathe-cut split single by Two Sun Tears (Ian Masters and Cailan Burns) & Buddha on the moon, on which each artist performs the other's composition.

[PLUM 001] Two Sun Tears / Buddha on the moon - Split (lathe-cut 7")

A Side: Two Sun Tears - "Losing" (written and originally recorded by Buddha on the moon)
Another Side: Buddha on the moon - "I'll Never Dream Again" (written by Ian Masters and originally recorded by Friendly Science Orchestra)

The record was made in an edition of forty, with each unit identified in an alphabetical sequence from "a" to "nn". The release contained:
  • One 7" record that was lathe-cut in New Zealand by Peter King
  • One silk-screen printed insert, designed by Hunch in Osaka and printed by David Wang in Texas
  • One sheet of liner notes (with handmade collages, each copy is different)
  • One 3" cd-r that contains a recording of unit "nn" on its first playback

SOLD OUT

-----------------------

The label's name was inspired by the opening of Christina Rossetti's poem, "The Goblin Market."

Morning and evening
Maids heard the goblins cry:
"Come buy our orchard fruits,
Come buy, come buy:
Apples and quinces,
Lemons and oranges,
Plump unpecked cherries,
Melons and raspberries,
Bloom-down-cheeked peaches,
Swart-headed mulberries,
Wild free-born cranberries,
Crab-apples, dewberries,
Pine-apples, blackberries,
Apricots, strawberries;--
All ripe together
In summer weather,--
Morns that pass by,
Fair eves that fly;
Come buy, come buy:
Our grapes fresh from the vine,
Pomegranates full and fine,
Dates and sharp bullaces,
Rare pears and greengages,
Damsons and bilberries,
Taste them and try:
Currants and gooseberries,
Bright-fire-like barberries,
Figs to fill your mouth,
Citrons from the South,
Sweet to tongue and sound to eye;
Come buy, come buy."
